Urgent Medical Device Field Safety Notice — Updated October 24, 2026
Medline Brand Beds: Product Removal, Discontinuation & Market Exit
Medline Industries, LP has issued an urgent field safety notice covering all Medline brand beds — including homecare beds, bariatric beds, and long-term-care beds — and their pendants (hand controls), rails, mattresses, accessories, replacement parts, and bed-containing order packages. All of these products are being removed from the market and discontinued.
Update — October 24, 2026: Medline has issued revised instructions for continued use. Customers can continue to use Medline brand beds, rails, mattresses, and accessories in accordance with the updated instructions below until the bed is either repaired or replaced. Medline has also added a repair option for certain beds.
If you or a loved one uses a Medline brand bed, please follow the updated instructions below.
Why this recall was issued
1. Electrical safety / fire risk
Under certain conditions — such as excessive loading, jammed components or motors, damage to or fluid in the hand pendant, use of extension cords, or use of non-Medline pendants or accessories — the bed’s electrical components may overheat. Overheating can progress to smoking, sparking, melting, burning, or fire, with risk of electrical shock, burns, serious injury, or death. Medline has received reports of adverse events related to this issue.
2. Entrapment risk
Use of any bed accessories (including side rails) with Medline brand beds may lead to entrapment. There is a risk of entrapment or asphyxiation if accessories are used, if a user lies on the pendant, or if the bed is used with loose or wobbly rails. Entrapment may result in serious injury or death. Medline has received reports of adverse events related to this issue.
Updated use instructions — October 24, 2026
- Keep the bed unplugged from the electrical outlet.
- When necessary adjustments to the bed need to be made, plug the bed into an electrical outlet, and unplug the bed when not repositioning the patient.
- Do not use extension cords to power the bed.
- Whenever possible, have a second person available to assist with the use and movement of the bed.
- Do not attempt to repair, modify, or alter the bed unless specifically instructed by Medline.
